CROWNS/FILLINGS/SEALANTS

Crowns, Fillings and Sealants for the Entire Family

Crowns

Precious Smiles Family Dentistry uses crowns to cap cracked, worn down, weakened teeth, or a tooth that has been through a root canal. Crowns can be made from several different materials such as ceramic, porcelain, metal alloys or a combination. After your tooth is prepared for the crown, an impression is made so that the crown is custom fit and specifically shaded to match your natural teeth. Also if you plan on having dental implants, we will use a crown to cap the anchor to make it look like one of your real teeth. We use crowns to make teeth stronger and prevent any further decay or deterioration.

Fillings

Dental Caries (Tooth Decay)

Tooth decay is a common disorder, second only to the common cold. It most often occurs in children and young adults, but it can affect anyone. Tooth decay is caused by the breakdown of enamel. This breakdown is the result of bacteria (plaque) on teeth that produces acid that destroys tooth enamel. Small cavities usually do not hurt. The first symptoms may be cold or sweet sensitivity. As cavities grow larger, they may affect the nerves of the teeth, resulting in pain or lead to tooth fracture. Before cavities before a major problem, the best solution is to have the decay removed and a filling placed.

    Sealants

Cavities are common in small children because it can be harder to get them into a daily oral hygiene routine. This is why it is important to establish a good, consistent routine of brushing, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash in the morning and at night early on. Kids under 3 should not have fluoridated toothpaste or mouth rinse, however.Precious Smiles Family Dentistry recommends bringing in your children for check-ups to prevent cavities.

Precious Smiles Family Dentistry uses dental sealants on young adults with molars and premolars that are susceptible to early decay. Sealants are a white, protective coating that is placed in the chewing surfaces or grooves of back teeth. The sealant bonds to the teeth and protects it from plaque and acid attacks. We can seal any permanent tooth on patients of any age, but it is more common in young adults and children who have all their adult teeth.
